I Run to Christ

One of my sisters sent me this song recently, and it has become my current favourite. It expresses my heart so well.

I’m ashamed to admit that for too many years I lived the Christian life mostly in my own strength. I thought I was relying on the Lord, but over the past two years I have found how wrong I was. Slowly, slowly over the past two years I’ve been learning to lean on Christ, and Christ alone, for my needs. And He has been so gracious to forgive me for not coming in this way sooner.

When you have a best friend to talk to every day, to share your trials and victories with, it’s easy to let your relationship with the Lord slide into the background. But when that relationship is taken away then you learn what you’ve been missing.

The Lord has been so good to me as I’ve learned to truly make Him my refuge and strength, my defender, my comforter. I can’t count the number of nights I’ve cried my heart out to Him that I just can’t go on another day. I have no strength for this life of single parenting and loneliness, yet somehow every morning He gives me new hope and new strength.

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

I’m not writing this post to garner sympathy for myself. I’m writing this to encourage you to run to Christ in every circumstance of life. You will never be disappointed.

Years ago we had a dear family friend, a saint who truly walked with God. When she would give devotionals to women it was always the same theme – Me and Thee. Her life had brought her to realize that the most important relationship in her life was the one she had with her Lord. My sisters and I thought she was cute how every devotional no matter where it started always ended with “Me and Thee”. I wish now I could tell her that she was so right. That it took me many years, but I have finally learned the truth of what she was telling us.

Run to Christ – He will be there for you and with you in every circumstance.

I run to Christ when chased by fear
And find a refuge sure.
“Believe in me,” His voice I hear;
His words and wounds secure.
I run to Christ when torn by grief
And find abundant peace.
“I too had tears,” He gently speaks;
Thus joy and sorrow meet.

I run to Christ when worn by life
And find my soul refreshed.
“Come unto Me,” He calls through strife;
Fatigue gives way to rest.
I run to Christ when vexed by hell
And find a mighty arm.
“The Devil flees,” the Scriptures tell;
He roars, but cannot harm.

I run to Christ when stalked by sin
And find a sure escape.
“Deliver me,” I cry to Him;
Temptation yields to grace.
I run to Christ when plagued by shame
And find my one defense.
“I bore God’s wrath,” He pleads my case—
My Advocate and Friend.

    I was just thinking about Mrs. Hollywood and her “Me and Thee” this morning and wishing I could hug her and tell her how right she was. Thank you for this post. No matter how much we think we can rely on others for strength truth is, there are truly times when only the Lord can help. ❤️ Beautiful song.
