Library Time 83

Last year I discovered a year-long reading challenge put out by PopSugar. I really enjoyed doing it. Some of the categories took me out of my reading comfort zone, and I discovered some books that I really enjoyed. I’m doing it again this year.

Anyway, about a week ago I was thinking that I would love to have a similar reading challenge, but geared for middle school age. It was like Pinterest read my mind (scary) because just a day or two later a pin popped up in my feed that was just that – a reading list for children.

You can find the post about it here. There is also a printable image so you can print the list up for your child(ren). I printed one up for my youngest daughter who has been really slow at getting into chapter books. I’m hoping this challenge will change that.

Shortly after I printed up the list my oldest daughter sat down and penciled in her suggestions for each category. My youngest daughter complained through the whole process, but I think underneath she is happy with the whole challenge. She started reading Little Women right away and is three chapters in and enjoying it.

Do you think your child would enjoy a challenge like this?

  1. I think next year, when Sarah is in first grade, I’m going to have to find something like that. She can read, technically — she has goodly number of sight words down and can sound out most others — but she doesn’t ever want to read. A challenge might really help.

    1. I think this challenge is really going to help because then it’s like the list is telling her what to read, and it’s not Mom nagging about something else. Also, since our children are frequently like ourselves – I love a challenge, and I think my daughter is starting to feel this way. 🙂
