This song should be the prayer of every Christian – to have God’s Holy Spirit at work in our life teaching us…

• to love what God loves
• to have strength to serve God with a pure heart
• to have a heart that burns for God alone
• to remember that we will be living a perfect life eternally with God

Sometimes when I pray I have a hymnbook with me and sing songs such as these as a prayer. It seems like some of the authors were able to express the thoughts of my heart in a way I never can.

I don’t think God minds us borrowing the words of others. After all, isn’t that what the Psalms are – songs of worship that we can quote back to God?

Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.

But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.
