Library Time 72

I’ve read a lot of novels lately. Most of them have been more or less what I call “brain candy” – not requiring a lot of thinking. I wanted something a little more meaty by still in the novel genre. So I went back to one of my favourite authors for novels – E. Phillips Oppenheim. The last couple of books I’ve read of his did not seem to be up to his usual quality, however this book totally restored my faith in Oppenheim’s story-spinning ablities. Jeanne of the Marshes kept me wondering as to whether or not a murder had actually been committed and whether or not the millionaire heiress was really a millionaire heiress. You can get this free on your Kindle!

I couldn’t add any links this week because my internet wouldn’t cooperate with me.

17-year-old daughter – The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas

15-year-old son – The Wooden Horse by Eric Williams. This is an awesome book told by one of the escapees about a successful escape from the same camp of “Great Escape” fame.

13-year-old son – Monster by Frank Perretti. This is a good one if you’d like another perspective on the question of whether or not Sasquatch is real. ☺

11-year-old daughter – The Victors by Jack Cavanaugh

9-year-old daughter – Dennis the Menace cartoon books. She bought herself several at a 50% off book sale that we went to as a family outing. Yes, we are that family that considers a book sale an outing.

7-year-old son – Dennis the Menace cartoon books

4-year-old son – Ethan and I haven’t done a lot of reading lately because he has just been passionate about colouring and doing his school workbooks. If only all of my children had his enthusiasm for school work. Of course, maybe they would if it was matching, colouring, cutting and pasting. ☺

2-year-old son – various Curious George stories

I’ve been reading some novels this past week but this morning I started a book by A.W. Tozer. I don’t think we have very many godly authors nowadays like him! Our Pastor highly recommends him and I can see why.
I need to check out some Dennis the Menace books for Tim – get him off the Garfield kick haha.
Em has been delving more and more into cookbooks and we are reaping the benefits (or our waistlines are).
Gucci has been re-reading all the Dear Canada series and I’m glad since she can become familiar with Canadian history that way.

  2. I really like this series of yours, and I’m considering doing something similar. We’re always reading, reading, reading here, and sometimes I like the kids’ books better than my own!

    1. P.S. Do you like it when the comment widget puts a recent post at the end of a person’s comment? I always feel like it looks like I’m tooting my own horn. “Hey, look what I blogged about! Aren’t I cool?” sort of thing. And then I realized that if you have that feature in your comments, maybe you LIKE having people’s blog posts linked to here. Which would you prefer? Or do you not care at all?

      1. To be honest, of course why should I be otherwise 🙂 , I never really notice them. I’m usually so focused on the comment, so appreciative that someone took the time to read and then make a comment. I also know that those things are automatic. It never crossed my mind that it was like someone patting their own back. 🙂

      1. Exactly! I actually toyed with starting another blog to focus on kids books because I love it when we find a really good one. And I love getting recommendations for them from others. But a semi-regular post would be even better, as I don’t have time for yet another blog, lol.
