I read a new-to-me Lucy Maude Montgomery book this week – A Tangled Web. It’s all about a clan (surprise, surprise). One of the oldest members of the clan dies and leaves the coveted family jug to…well, that’s the story. Who does she leave it to? They won’t find out for more than a year after she dies who gets it. And the decisions that are made based on each person’s secret or not-so-secret desire to possess the jug makes a wonderful read.

My parents took my two oldest daughters this week to visit Lucy Maude Montgomery’s home. Any guesses as to the names of these two dogs. If you’ve read Anne of Ingleside you should know. ☺

My two oldest boys are away today so there books aren’t listed today, but here’s what everyone else has been reading.

16-year-old daughter – Gone With the Wind (again) by Margaret Mitchell. She says the book is much better than the movie (typical I think of any book-to-movie adaptation). She was really disappointed that some of her favourite characters in the book were not included in the movie.

11-year-old daughter – Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. Surprisingly I haven’t read this, and I need to. I enjoy Jules Verne. I love how so much of the stuff that he wrote that was science fiction in his day is now everyday living for us.

9-year-old daughter – Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse by Ursula Moray Williams. I asked my daughter what she likes about the book and instead I got a ten-minute “summary” of the book. She did finally say that the horse is like the Velveteen Rabbit and has his own thoughts which she enjoyed reading.

three youngest sons (7, 4 and 2) – This week we started reading Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder as their bedtime story. I read this hoping my two year old will fall asleep while I’m reading and maybe even the four year old. I’m surprised at how much my four-year-old son is understanding and enjoying this story.

What has your reading looked like this week? Do you read chapter books to your little ones?

I knew the names of the dogs :).
I have NEVER understood the attraction to “Gone with the Wind” – I have read reviews and probably seen most of the movie but my impression is she is a brat ;)….maybe I’m missing something and maybe she is stronger than I remember LOL.
I have never read, “Around the World” only seen the movie (have your kids watched it?) – the old version is great!
Rebekah made me think of Gucci with her description of a book – haha – you ask Gucci did you like the book and you get the WHOLE story :).
We are now on “Little Town on the Prairie” – very good series! When we are done with that series we will begin the Winslow series 🙂
