Last week I shared about quilts I have made for my toddlers. This week I’m going to share pictures of more quilts I have made. This is not a complete record. I can think of at least three quilts I have made that I can’t find pictures for.
This first one is a quilt I made for my nephew. The pattern is called “Attic Window”, and it’s one I really enjoy doing. It’s simple but creates an interesting look. My goal is to do a quilt for each of my nieces and nephews!
I made this one for a neighbour’s granddaughter who was very sick. I fell in love with this pattern when I found it and was just looking for an excuse to make it. ☺ The pinwheels are appliqued on by hand. The border was a new technique that I had fun learning.
This is a quilt that we made for a bridal shower party. I asked everyone to bring a half yard of yellow fabric. We cut it into twelve inch squares (bigger squares=faster finish). We then decided how we wanted them arranged and sewed them all together at the party. I then took the quilt home and added batting and backing, tied it and sewed the border on.
This quilt was a labour of love for my husband. He enjoys astronomy. I found these cross stitch patterns for the planets and wondered how I could use them for a gift for my husband. I finally decided on turning them all into a quilt. This was the first time I hand quilted, and I absolutely fell in love with it.
I’m sorry that the quality of this photo is so poor. The quilt on the left is done in purples and greens and on the right in pinks. I had a lot of fun diving into my fabric stash and making these quilts for two of my nieces.
This one was made for a friend who was dying of cancer to help her stay warm. Again, I used a lot of fabrics from my stash and enjoyed putting this together even if the reason was sad.
The next two quilts were made for my two oldest children and are called sampler quilts. Each square is a different pattern – a sampling of patterns. I like making this kind of quilt because you can personalize for the person you are making it for. I liked the splashes of red I added to my son’s quilt.

So my question is – how long does it take you to make one?

It depends on the pattern of the quilt and how I decide to tie it all together – hand quilt, ties or sew on buttons. Hugo’s quilt took hundred of hours, but the quilt for Rose (and yes, that was for Rose) was probably done in a day.

WOW! I am very impressed. I’ve never quilted, but it’s something I’d like to learn someday. That idea for the bridal shower was awesome!

I was pretty happy with that bridal shower idea too because I came up with it all on my own. 🙂 I just could not face one more cheesy game. We had a lot of fun talking, eating and working together and the bride got a nice memory for her new home.
Quilting is very easy, and I find it relaxing too. I love the whole process from picking the fabrics to sewing on the binding.

I’ve actually been saving our worn-out jeans for a few years, with the idea of making a big patchwork picnic blanket one day. For now, I crochet endless baby blankets for relatives and friends instead 🙂
Yes, bridal shower games (and baby shower games) are kind of an onerous duty to perform, aren’t they? Much cooler to make something useful and awesome like that!

I’m thinking about getting back into crocheting this winter. It’s a nice thing to do while watching movies (or Combat with the girls 🙂 ).
If I had thought about it I would have bought a fabric marker and had everyone write a message for the bride on the fabic I used for the back. Or for a baby shower everyone could write a wish they had for the baby.
