Simple Living 7

I feel like my summer has been just as busy as the school year. Partly that’s because I’m now selling Usborne books and have been working hard to learn all the ins and outs.

Since I am so busy I’ve been trying to stay on task with lots of lists. There is something so incredibly satisfying about writing out a list AND crossing things off a list.

This week I’ve inched ever closer to finishing Micah’s quilt. The top is finished now. The next step – maybe tomorrow – will be to sandwich it. That’s where you lay the top, batting, and back on a flat surface (for me that’s usually the floor) and pin all three layers together.

I’ve finished a quilt for the daughter of a friend of mine. I’ve always wanted to try the “Log Cabin” block so I did it with this one.

I’ve also been working on a top called the Madison Blouse. It’s from a company I recently discovered called Rebecca Page Sewing Patterns. I love their patterns because they are simple to sew but still pretty. So far I’ve made underwear, a skirt, and this blouse.

This blouse was easy to sew, but it could have been easier if I’d read the directions and bought woven fabric instead of knit. 🙂 I can tell it’s going to be comfortable to wear. And, yes, I know I’m wearing long sleeves in summer, but we’re not exactly in the middle of a heat wave here. I don’t think we broke 80 today. 🙂

I’ve also been enjoying my garden. The vegies are getting really big. This is my first time with onions and cabbage, and I’m pretty happy. I also found a hosta plant buried under some weeds. It seems to be super happy now that I’ve cleared it out.

I’ve picked out some Christmas gifts to get started making.

I’ve also been doing lots of school prep. We’re trying a couple of different things this year. Maybe I’ll write a post about it soon.

Today I printed up this poster so that when my boys say they’re bored, they can look for a skill to work on.

So, how is your summer going?
