Simple Living 5

Where has April gone?! You would think with all the problems due to the virus that time would just be hanging, but it’s flying by.

My life hasn’t changed that much except for church. However, I have felt over the past month or so that I’m waking up more from my grief. I don’t really know how to explain it other than to say I’m enjoying life more.

I’ve done more sewing and crafting. I did some baking today. I’ve been excited about planning next school year and enjoying the day to day routine of school – something that I haven’t really enjoyed for about three years.

One of the things I’ve been working on to sew is a quilt for a friend who has been sick. I shared a photo of stacks of squares. Now I have a photo of the squares sewed into strips. I can hardly wait to start sewing these strips together. I think this quilt is going to be very pretty.

Intentional Simplicity

I’ve also been trying out a new knitted dishcloth pattern that’s flower shaped. I’ve made a couple that I’ve given to friends, and a third is on my needles – super easy pattern from Ravelry. I love how the multi-coloured cotton worked out to be almost exactly one colour per petal.

I’ve also started learning how to make sourdough. For years we’ve made our own bread, but now we can’t unless I nail sourdough – there is no yeast to be found anywhere unless you want to get a bank loan.

I had a starter in my fridge that a friend gave me about a year ago. I researched how to “wake it up” and it worked! My starter is doing really well growing and bubbling away.

I came across an article about what to do with the starter you have to discard. It’s no fun throwing food away even it it’s for a good cause. Today I made the flatbread recipe. It wasn’t as pretty as the blog writer’s, and I didn’t use as many herbs on top, but it’s all gone so clearly my children liked it. You can see these recipes here.

I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy and encouraged.
