My daughter has been listening to a lot of Ron Hamilton and Patch the Pirate songs during her free month on Google Play.
I love the song “Constantly Abiding,” and the first time I heard the Ron Hamilton version I fell in love with it. I don’t usually like rewrites of hymns, but this one is gorgeous.
There’s a peace in my heart that the world never gave,
A peace it cannot take away;
Though the trials of life may surround like a cloud,
I’ve a peace that has come here to stay!
Refrain:
Constantly abiding, Jesus is mine;
Constantly abiding, rapture divine;
He never leaves me lonely, whispers, oh, so kind:
“I will never leave thee”—Jesus is mine.
All the world seemed to sing of a Savior and King,
When peace sweetly came to my heart;
Troubles all fled away and my night turned to day,
Blessed Jesus, how glorious Thou art!
This treasure I have in a temple of clay,
While here on His footstool I roam;
But He’s coming to take me some glorious day,
Over there to my heavenly home!
~Anne S. Murphy
The first verse and chorus have become especially meaningful to me in the past three years. How I could have survived this far without Jesus I have no idea. I’m so thankful for a Saviour who never leaves me and has walked every step of my journey not just with me but in front of me making sure my way was clear.
And the happy promise that I not only have Jesus, but that He’s coming some day to take me to my heavenly home. It gives me courage to continue on.
Please listen to this version of “Constantly Abiding,” and then come back and tell me what you think.
