Simple Living 1

I used to post regularly on Fridays with updates on what we had been doing as a family, things I had pinned, recipes or crafts I had tried, etc.

I still want to do that, but in order to hold myself accountable to simple living I want to focus more on what I’m doing to keep my life simple.

First of all, I want to brag about my daughter, Bekah. She has started to make breakfast for us. I cannot say how much this has blessed my life and helped me focus on my children more.

First, it frees up my time to do things like regularly monitor that my three youngest boys are making their beds after they get dressed.

Second, I now eat breakfast with my children instead of sitting in the living room by myself with a book and reading and eating. Breakfast feels more peaceful and even fun as a share time with my children.

Third, we have variety. When I make breakfast it’s pretty much eggs and toast. Bekah varies the kind of eggs she makes, plus she will make muffins or pancakes some days.

I highly recommend teaching your children how to work in the kitchen.

If you need breakfast ideas, I did a whole series on Breakfast a couple of years ago.

Second, here’s a picture of a blanket I’ve been working on for almost nine months. I started it to use up yarn I had leftover from a blanket I finished last year. This is where I got the idea from although I ended up not totally following the instructions and kind of doing my own thing. I have so much enjoyed working on this which leads to my third point.

All of you homeschooling moms know there is that one child or one subject that is very apt to drive you absolutely bonkers. I have a dyslexic son who has become my teacher in patience. His daily reading exercise has become my time to knit as I listen to him read. We sit together and I knit while he reads. This helps me to stay calm because I have something to focus on outside of his struggles. As an aside, he is improving, and I keep telling myself that any progress is forward progress.

I bought a loom knitting set at the thrift store recently so I’m gearing up to teach my younger boys how to do this craft. Here are a few patterns I’ve pinned as possibilities…

I see a lot of loom knitted gifts in our future.

I  hope you’ve had a good week. Mine has been full of the usual ups and downs, but God has seen me through the downs and gets all the praise for the ups.
