Library Time 104

This week I’m doing something a little different. I want to talk about the books that I am currently reading with my children. Most nights after supper finding us reading together. We always read a devotional, and most nights I read a couple of other books as well.

First of all, we are reading 365 Days With Wilberforce. This is a daily devotional based on Wilberforce’s life and writings. What a godly man he was! This book has really been challenging us to strive to live more for God and less for our own selves.

Then I read Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris. This has also been a challenge. This book was written by teens for teens. Society today expects so little from teens when they are capable of so much more. But I have found that this book has challenged me to step out of my comfort zones not just for myself but for my youngest boys as well. So many times I do for them what they could learn to do for themselves.

Then for fun we’re reading Code Red at the Supermall by Eric Wilson. Eric Wilson is a Canadian author who writes mysteries for younger teens. Every book involves some famous Canadian landmark. We thought we would read this book since it takes place at the West Edmonton Mall. It is the largest mall in North America (I think the third largest in the world), and we live less than thirty minutes from this mall! Come and visit and we will take you over there.

My oldest daughter saw me doing my library post and wanted to share what she’s reading. Not really in my theme for this week’s post, but I’m indulging her (because I’m such a fantastic warrior). She is currently reading Warrior Scarlet by Rosemary Sutcliff. The book is written in the Bronze Age, and the main character has a shriveled arm so he can’t hunt well. When he slays his first wolf the women will weave read into the tapestry to show he has become a man but how is he to accomplish this with only one arm?

Do you and your family read together?
