Friday File 84

In spite of the rough start to the summer with my car accident we had a good summer. My arm is healed now although I think I will always have some scarring. Thankfully it no longer looks like the VW logo.

We stayed at home this summer just making one short trip to the States to visit our friends in Montana. It was a wonderful visit with lots of outdoor time in beautiful Montana.

Last week it seemed that we had passed right over fall and gone straight into winter. We have already had about three good snowfalls! Thankfully nothing has stuck, and we are back to more “moderate” temperatures. It’s still a lot colder than where we used to live. I’ve heard that this is going to be a hard winter. If so, I’m glad we had an easier one first.

My temperature blanket is coming along although I’m quite a bit behind. I’m only about a third of the way through August. I lost a lot of time with it this summer as my arm was recovering. It’s getting big though and warm. I tried to get a picture to show you, but I’ve been having camera issues.

I’m nearly finished my youngest daughter’s memory quilt made from her dad’s clothes. I’m down to the hand sewing. I think I’m going to do my youngest son’s quilt next. These quilts are taking longer than I had anticipated, but little by little they are getting finished. I’ll share a picture when it’s finished.

We’ve added a kitten to our family! We love Cinder Aibhlinn (Ave-leen). She has added so much joy and laughter to our family. She’s still in the wild kitten stage where anything and everything is fair game when she is in huntress mode. BUT when she’s ready to settle down she curls up with big purrs in someone’s lap.

We’ve passed the first anniversary of my husband’s death. In some ways it’s hard to believe it’s been a year. In other ways it feels like it’s been half of forever. We all miss him so much, but we are grateful that we were allowed to know and love him for as long as we did. God was good to give me twenty years with Hugo.

Our school year is going so well. I was nervous to start this year because last year was so difficult. I spent a lot of time praying over the summer, and God has honoured those prayers. School isn’t perfect, but it’s going so much better than I had hoped for. We’re trying something new. One of my sisters and I are trading talents. My oldest daughter and I are teaching her children literature, and she is giving my girls voice lessons. Isn’t modern technology wonderful? We live so far apart, but we can still help each other in these practical ways.

I haven’t spent a lot of time on Pinterest lately, but there are some things I’ve found and tried and liked (or just found and want to try).

We were recently given some rhubarb. It was just enough for this coffee cake which we all loved. I didn’t have any sour cream so I used yogurt, and I don’t think we could tell the difference.

I’m trying to find someone that I can make this set for. I love the looks of this pattern.

This is a lovely article that reminds us that people are more important than things.

What My Grandma Taught Me About Creating a Haven

You know how zucchini is! Always an abundance. We’ve been given lots of it this summer, so I’ve been looking for new recipes. This soup is so good. We’ve only had it once, but I’m planning on making it again soon.

Zucchini Corn Chowder

Another zucchini recipe that we enjoyed.

So that’s our past couple of months. I hope you all had a good summer too. Do you have a great zucchini recipe that would help us use up what we still have?
