Friday File 79

This has been a frustrating week. Back in December I sprained both of my wrists in separate incidents. Since then they have never really healed. To be honest, I don’t think I’m resting them enough. It’s Just. So. Hard. This week I realized that like it or not I had to cut back on playing the piano and knitting. Instead I’ve been doing a little scrapbooking and getting ready to make a new quilt.

When my husband died I saved a lot of his clothes to use for making quilts for my children. This week I asked for some advice about this from a Facebook group that I’m a part of. I received so many good suggestions that it really ramped up my excitement for getting these quilts started.

I’m going to start with Eva-Joy’s quilt. It’s going to be a book shelf quilt similar to the picture I’m sharing here. She’ll have a “book” from every piece of her dad’s clothing. This picture’s a little blurry, but I think you get the idea.

So in all of my research about quilts this week I came across this really neat website all about quilting. If you’re interested in quilting check this site out.

Suzy Quilts

A couple of weeks ago I told you about the Bible reading plan I’m using with my little boys. We read a portion every day, and they have to do a Lego build based on what we read. My little boys have enjoyed this so much. We’ve had some really good discussions about what we’ve read before they race off to their room to see who can make the best Lego representation of the story (always about competition with boys). The readings for February were just published. If you want to follow along here’s the link.

February Bible Brick Challenge Calendar

A few days ago I bought a calendar that tells you something to celebrate every day. It’s driving my older children crazy, but I’m enjoying it. This week I asked everyone to write a note to someone on National Handwriting Day. Ethan chose to write a note to a single guy who goes to our church. He was thrilled with the note. On Compliment Day I challenged all of us to give out at least two compliments. For Opposite Day I was going to make chicken for breakfast, but I figured I’d lose my standing for the Best Mother of the Year Award.

Anyway I thought I’d include a list every Friday of the holidays/celebrations coming up in the next week so you can play along with me.

  • Saturday – January 27 – Chocolate Cake Day (Oh yeah! They’ll love me tomorrow.)
  • Sunday – January 28 – National Kazoo Day (We will not be celebrating – for obvious reasons.)
  • Monday – January 29 – National Puzzle Day (We love puzzles.)
  • Tuesday – January 30 – National Croissant Day (My children already ate the croissants I bought so back to the store I go.)
  • Wednesday – January 31 – Inspire Your Heart with Art Day (My little guys will love this.)
  • Thursday – February 1 – Robinson Crusoe Day (Still have to think of something for this.)
  • Friday – February 2 – Day of the Crepe (I’ve never made crepes but have thought about trying to.)

Let me know if you do anything for any of these days. I want to let my children know I’m not the only person who thinks this is a fun idea.

I hope you have a good week.

Love your posts. Always a whirlwind of activity. I think you deserve Mother of the Year.
I have made dessert crepes (a long time ago). I would heat up a can of peaches for the filling and sprinkle icing sugar on top. Have a great day.
