This has been a hard week. My husband had kidney stones which ended up with him spending the morning yesterday in the hospital. Thankfully everything checked out that he’s over this, and I pray it never returns.
Anyway, I’ve kept my reading light this week so I’ve been enjoying a Grace Livingston Hill book – Lone Point. She always writes such sweet love stories. Some are better than others, but it’s nice to read a romance that doesn’t have a bunch of stuff you wish you’d never read.
My two oldest daughters spent the week vacationing with my parents. They hit four used book stores while they were away and came home with a van-full of books. There’s a couple that my oldest daughter has that I want to read.
17-year-old daughter – The Case of the Golden Boy by Eric Wilson.
16-year-old son – Rebound by Eric Walters. Eric Walters has become a favourite Canadian author. I forget how we even found him. Anyway, this book is about a guy who has to learn to live without the use of his legs.
14-year-old son – World War II in Photographs by John Pilmott.
12-year-old daughter – Nothing for this week. She was too busy book shopping to read.
10-year-old daughter – Dewey the Library Cat by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter. We’ve read the full version of this and also have a picture book for children about Dewey. This week my mom found a chapter book (based on the adult book) for school age children. Rachel, your children would love this one.
8-5- and 3-year-old sons – We started reading Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The two older boys are also working on a “Farmer Boy” notebook. It’s a fun way to keep their reading and writing skills up during the summer.

Do you do anything in the summer to keep your children’s school skills up?
