Wow! It’s been a long time since I wrote a post about what we’ve been reading. That doesn’t mean we haven’t been reading though. It just means I’ve had a busy summer and spotty internet. I love living rurally, but sometimes I miss easy internet access.

Okay, my daughter and I are having an argument about what I should put down for my book. For the sake of family peace, I’m going to put down two – one for a paper book and one for a Kindle book. I’m always reading a minimum of two books because I always have a paper book for the car and a Kindle for bedtime in the dark.

The paper book I most recently read was The Adversaries by Jack Cavanaugh. My daughter highly recommended this since she loves this author. The book is set in the Civil War and does a good job showing how the war separated family and friends.

My Kindle book was (surprise, surprise) a book by Oppenheim – The Master Mummer. The plot for this was quite different in a couple of ways from what I’ve read of his works. The main girl was a child when the book started and was taken in as a ward by three bachelors. (My daughter thinks this plot sounds creepy, but it totally wasn’t. Do you get the feeling that my daughter is trying to run my life this morning? I do. Now she’s reading as I type and correcting my “mistakes”.) There was political intrigue and romance (more than one) and murder and mystery.

17-year-old daughter – The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. She did a “first thoughts” post of it here.

16-year-old son – Regenesis by Eric Walters.

14-year-old son – Set Among Princes by Sharon L. Griffiths.

12-year-old daughter – Auggie and Me by R. J. Palacio. This is a good book, but you really need to read the first one first – Wonder – about a boy whose face is deformed due to a genetic defect. So, so good. You really need to read this book.

10-year-old daughter – Brighty of the Grand Canyon by Marguerite Henry. This is a true story and a mystery.

8-year-old son – Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder. My little guys really enjoyed this book, but I think they’ll enjoy Farmer Boy which we’ll be reading next even more.

5-year-old son – Katie and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton. Nothing like a story about a snow storm to help you feel a little cooler in the summer.

3-year-old son – Dumpy the Dump Truck by Julie Andrews.
