Friday File 62

I’m trying to remember what I’ve done this week. Between the heat and my husband having some pretty bad back problem I feel like I haven’t accomplished much.

I fixed a skirt for my youngest daughter. The only problem was that the mend was visible so I added a BIG button and then threw on a few more to make it look more natural.

Healthy Simplicity

I also went to the fabric store to spend the gift certificate that my children gave me for Mother’s Day. That was fun! I bought fabric to make a tote for myself. I’m a little over half finished. I found the pattern here if you want to do one for yourself. Here’s the outside so far.

Mostly though I’ve just been hiding out from the heat.

So I’m thinking that I might try to do this crochet pattern using plastic bags cut into strip for “yarn”. Honestly, we must have about a half a gazillion (give or take) plastic bags, and I need to find something to do with them. Clearly though I will have to wait for cooler weather because heat and plastic don’t mix.

The next time I’m at the dollar store I’m going to get a pool noodle and become the world’s favourite mom to my children.

I love this project. I find getting children to understand the differences between province, country, city, etc. to be challenging. I think this would be a great way for them to visualize it.

Where do I live?

We’re getting ready to welcome a baby girl at our church. I love this onesie dress.

What do you do to stay cool in the summer?

  1. I stay cool in the summer by hiding in my basement. In theory, anyway. It’s always 10 degrees cooler down there than on the main floor, and during weeks like this has been, probably 20 cooler than on the top floor. We should all sleep in the basement, really.

But mostly I wear tank tops all summer long (conservative ones — no spaghetti straps!), and shorts, and try to do outside stuff in the mornings and evenings. The heat index here for the last week or so has been over a hundred, as the actual temps have been upper 90s and the humidity has been so horrible that fruit has gone moldy sitting on my counter.

Bleah, I don’t like summer. Longing for fall!!!!

    1. My sisters and I used to sleep in our basement or later when we lived in an apartment building on the balcony.
That’s some serious heat and humidity. Since we’re not in the city anymore it’s not quite as hot where we’re living which is a blessing.
I enjoy summer for the extra time to get projects accomplished, but other than that I’m ready for fall too.
