Trusting Jesus

I love it when I’m at church and we sing a song that I haven’t played in a while. That’s what happened to me on Sunday with “Trusting Jesus”. The words really hit me in a fresh way. It seems like the older you get, the more you realize how much you need to trust Jesus. You may also find this song under the title “Simply Trusting”.

The common story for the origin of this song is that it was first published in a newspaper. Moody gave a clipping of it to Sankey, the hymn composer, and asked him to write music for the poem. Sankey agreed if Moody would vouch for the theology of the song.

I love the chorus to this song and the third verse that speak. They remind us that trusting Jesus is all we need at any time, but my favourite line in the song is in the first verse – “Even when my faith is small”. My faith is small so often, but it has been great to see the Lord build on my small faith.

Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Refrain

Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Brightly does His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Singing if my way is clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger for Him call;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth be past;
Till within the jasper wall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.
