I was checking, and it’s been quite a while since I did a post where I told you what each of us is reading. Sorry about that.
Right now I’m reading Oliver Twist. I’ve been wanting to read it for a while, but what pushed me over the edge was a really bad BBC production (2009 – Do yourself a favour and don’t watch this if you ever come across it) of the book. The casting and music and adaption are just bad, and I wanted to see what the book was really like (I read it too long ago to remember all the details), so I picked it up on Kindle for free and have been really enjoying it.
17-year-old daughter – Cronkite’s War: His World War II Letters Home. She really enjoyed this one. I think I’d like to read it too. Too many books, too little time.
15-year-old son – Rule of Three: Will to Survive by Eric Walters. This is a survival book – the last of a trilogy – about what the world would be like after a virus kills all computers. One of the neat things about this book is that even though the author is making it sound like it happens in America all the places he names are just outside of the city where we live. We recognize the names of the major highways that are described. The topography is familiar to us. Kind of cool.
13-year-old son – The Inuk Mountie Adventure by Eric Wilson. This is a Tom Austen mystery.
12-year-old daughter – Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
10-year-old daughter – Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. This is part of her reading challenge for the year. She’s nine chapters in and enjoying it.
8-year-old son – The Boxcar Children by . He’s studying this in school with his grandma. She’s challenged him to come up with a Lego model of the boxcar. They were making excited plans for it yesterday.
5-year-old son – The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse by Beatrix Potter.
3-year-old son – The Biggest Bear by Lynd Ward. This book has been featured many times here because it’s a family favourite and never gets old.
We’ve had three birthdays since I last did one of these! Do you know who they were?

We are big Boxcar Children fans around here 🙂 I’ve been slowly buying up used copies of the original 19 books over the years, but Sam gets a lot of the “created by GCW” ones from the library too.

These all sound like good books. I like reading your posts like this because I always gain ideas of books for my kids to read and myself. I hope you continue doing these posts more often. You’re right there are so many books and to little time.

I’m glad you enjoy these. I wanted them to be helpful to others. I know I’ve been rather absent lately. Our family has been battling the flu for a month now. It hasn’t left me with much energy for anything else. Hopefully soon I’ll get back to a regular schedule.
