Friday File 53

We’re still in a bit of recovery mode here from the flu. It’s that time of year when we all take turns being sick. It’s especially good when my oldest daughter and I manage to be sick at different times so we can take turns taking care of everyone. I’ve spent all week playing catch up in school and just trying to get us back to a normal routine.

I did do some sewing. I made a nightgown for my daughter’s birthday – her request. Purple camo flannel with several pin tucks down each side. I’m just about finished it. Just a little bit of hand sewing that I hope to do tonight. I had so much fun using my new sewing machine’s buttonhole feature. The buttonholes look a hundred times better than I’ve ever had buttonholes look before.

I really need to have some new quiet activities for my little one during school. There are some great ideas here.

Since I’m back into knitting I have a lot of scraps of yarn left. I found this pattern for a kitchen scrubbie. I want to try it soon.

Tawashi Knot

Here’s another knitting pattern I found. My mother-in-law likes hedgehogs. I can’t blame her – they’re adorable. I found this pattern for knitting a hedgehog and hope to make one soon.

I’m intrigued by weighted blankets. I like the weight of a blanket on me, but sometimes to get the weight I want I have to use too many blankets and it’s too warm. A weighted blanket might be the answer.

It looks like I’ll never run out of projects to work on. Maybe next week I’ll have some pictures for you of finished projects.

  1. I had never heard of a weighted blanket, but that makes so much sense. I have a throw blanket by my bed that I sometimes throw on just over my hips and back because the extra weight convinces my back it’s warm without covering the rest of me and making me too hot. I wonder if a weighted blanket might work even better.

I’m sorry to hear about all the family sickness, though. We’ve been blessed with a fairly healthy winter thus far, though of course spring isn’t really here yet. I hope everyone is much better soon!

    1. We’re all doing much better although now my parents have caught the flu from us. Nice that they live near us so we can help take care of them.
I love the weight of a blanket but not always the heat so weighted blankets sound great.

      1. Ugh, I hate how it always just runs right through a household once it gets a hold. A couple of years ago, we battled Strep Throat for months — my girls both got it right before Easter, gave it to me, they got it again, and then I got it again. We finally got rid of it after more than a month of antibiotics and quarantines and so on… and two months later, my mom came for a weekend visit and didn’t realize she had Strep, she thought it was just a cold. She gave it to my son, and I got it from him, he caught it back, and then gave it back to me. I wanted to just burn our house to the ground. I hope this is the end of the flu for all of you!

      2. I think that tops any story my family has. Two winters ago the children did all have whooping cough which threw us out for a month, but at least once we were done with it we were done with it.
