I really didn’t read much more than light, fluffy books this week due to a sore throat that lingered for days. There is a time for fluff – when you’re too tired/sick to think, but you want to be distracted.

17-year-old daughter – Still staying with the Louis L’Amour collected short frontier stories – call it research for her latest book.

15-year-old son – The World Book Encyclopedia. Seriously. He and his brother have been leafing through our encyclopedia set and reading whatever catches their eyes.

13-year-old son – The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict by Trenton Lee Stewart

11-year-old daughter – started re-reading the Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart

7-year-old son – Tony’s Hard Work Day by Alan Arkin. This story is so weird, but all of my children (even the big ones) enjoy it. Tony wants to help his family settle into their new home, but no one wants his help because he’s too little. So Tony goes out and all in one day builds a house all by himself which his family likes so much that they decide to move into Tony’s house instead of their new one. Crazy, crazy, crazy, but it always makes us laugh.

4-year-old son – The Biggest Bear by Lynn Ward. This is another book that everyone in the family enjoys reading no matter what their age. Johnny wants to shoot a bear not have one as a pet. Then he adopts a baby bear, and what will he do when the bear grows up to be the biggest the valley has ever seen and is eating all of the neighbour’s food supplies?

2-year-old son – Over in the Meadow by Golden Books. We love singing this song. I’ve read/sung this book to all of my children since my first. The tune is catchy and the words fun.
