Friday File 39

Fall has arrived! It seems like the beginning of October has ushered in much cooler weather. We’re using our wood stove every day. I love to cook on it. It does such a good job of heating our family room and kitchen too. I’m hoping to master baking in it this winter.

I made a couple of skirts for my middle daughter. They are very different, and she loves them both.

I’ve also been making pickled beets. I’m not particularly fond of this project because I don’t like them. My family does though so I labour on in love. I’ve made it easier on myself this year. Instead of trying to do fifty pounds in one day as I’ve done in the past (nearly doing myself in), I’m doing them fifteen pounds at a time. Much easier. So far I have fourteen quarts!

This recipe sounds so good. I want to make some of this applesauce this fall.

I’m looking forward to making some of these mixes to have them on hand.

This recipe looks so amazing, and you only dirty one dish! We are going to have to be trying this one out.

I have a little boy who loves to cart around all of his favourite belongings in a bag with him everywhere. I’m thinking that I’m going to make him one of these bags.

30-Minute Little Boy’s Messenger Bag Tutorial

In ten days we’re having our Canadian Thanksgiving. This will, of course, be our first one in our new house. It’s been fun figuring out where all of our decorations will go. The hardest was where we would be put our “Gratitude” tree. We finally decided on the outside of our washroom door. Now we’re having fun writing what we are thankful for on leaves and adding them to the tree.

This year I’m thankful for a house big enough to share with my parents. They’re very active and healthy, but if the day ever comes that they need help we’ll be here.

  1. That messenger bag tutorial is awesome! I think I’m going to use it — Sam has been begging for a bag to tote things in. Now that Tootie is potty trained, he asked if he could have the diaper bag since we don’t need it anymore, but I was like, “Um, I might need it again one day, so no.” He’s since been asking if I could sew one for him, and this looks perfect! Thanks for sharing!
