This has been such a busy week. Lots of time spent on outings with family and a little trip with my husband. Of course everywhere I went, I took my Kindle with me. I was able to do lots of reading while we were travelling in the car.
A few weeks ago my daughter said she was reading Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. I had tried once a while ago to read it and just couldn’t get into it. However, my curiosity was piqued to try again, and since I have it on Kindle (for free! You can get a lot of Jules Verne’s books free on Kindle) I did. I really enjoyed it, but was surprised to find that many scenes in the movie were added. And in the end it has a sweet romance with a happy ending so I thoroughly enjoyed it.
16-year-old daughter – Spellbound by Beauty: Alfred Hitchcock and His Leading Ladies by Donald Spoto. When I asked her what she read she said she loves this question every week because she likes to think through all of the books she read over the last week and pick which would be the best to share.
15-year-old son – Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card. A sci-fi book from an author who was writing sci-fi/dystopian before it was even a “thing”.
13-year-old son – Secret of the Desert Stone by Frank Peretti. Another one in the “Cooper Kids” series that my children love.
11-year-old daughter – The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet by Stephanie Morrill. A contemporary, slightly Christian book with a budding author and a love triangle.
9-year-old daughter – St Clare’s: The First Year by Enid Blyton. While my husband and I were away this week we went to a thrift store. Can I just say as an aside how nice it is to ramble through a thrift store without two or three little ones that I have to keep chasing down? Anyway, I found a new-to-us Enid Blyton book that I brought home to my daughter, and she is now happily enjoying it.
7-year-old son – Mouse Island by Eve Bunting. A mouse lives alone on an island. Life is good, but he feels like something is missing. Could a cat be the answer?
4-year-old son – The Poky Little Puppy by We were at a used book store, and my son found a tiny version of this for a dime. His brother gave him a dime so he could pay for it himself.
2-year-old son – Curious George Gets a Medal by H.A. Rey – an old classic.
The summer’s almost over. Has it been a good reading summer for you?
Intentional Simplicity 
I’ve been chugging along at my reading. I read a bio this past week, “Evidence Not Seen”. Darlene Diebler Rose was one incredible Christian woman. If only I could be half of what she was. This book really impacted me!
I liked the movie, “Around the World” and so I wonder if the book is better.
I’m NOT a Hitchcock or a horror fan 😛 He seems like a weird person :P. I can’t even watch some drama without being scared LOL.
Genevieve is such a reader – she is gobbling up all my books. Right now she is reading “Girl of the Limberlost” and the “Dear Canada” series.
Tim just can’t get enough of Garfield but I’m done – hahaha. I keep finding free books for Stef’s kindle on animals that I think she is enjoying as we travel.
I think we have pretty much been disillusioned by the modern library and the garbage in them so I have started them on books from home and plan to buy some biographies for them to read this winter.

Hitchcock isn’t all horror. Mostly his movies are mysteries.
It is hard to find good books at the library, but if we look hard enough we can find them. I just don’t go to the library as often though as I would if there were lots more good books.
