As so often happens in life, last week after I posted about the quilts I’ve made I remembered three others. Actually when I was writing the post I had a feeling that I was forgetting some but just couldn’t think of what they were.

About three or four years ago I made “matching” quilts for my daughters. I say “matching” because I used different patterns but the same fabrics. I used lots of purples because two of my daughters love purple and some pink for the third daughter.

The first one I made was for my oldest daughter. It was very big – I think big enough to cover a double bed. I hand quilted boxes on the four-patch squares and hearts on the patterned squares. I used a contrasting quilting thread so that the quilting is clearly visible on the reverse side.

My second daughter’s quilt turned out smaller than I expected. I don’t know what I was thinking, or why I didn’t realize from the measurements that it would be on the smallish side. For her quilting I outlined the middle rectangle of each set of three and did a tulip in the patterned square. Again I used contrasting thread so the back was pretty too.

For my youngest daughter I tried an interesting technique where you sew the top, batting and back all at the same time which essential quilts it as well, So this quilt isn’t hand quilted, but I enjoyed trying this method. The quilting on the back is an interesting pattern.

The quilt made up really fast, and I really need to remember this the next time I need a gift for someone. It’s a bit more messy of a look, but it has stood up to a lot of hard use.

So, I think that is all for now. I’m working on a quilt for my oldest son, and if I ever finish it I’ll definitely be sharing it.
