Men can be very difficult to give a gift to especially if you like to make homemade gifts.
About a year ago I saw an idea on the internet that I thought would be easy to copy. I can’t remember exactly where to give it credit, but I’ve seen it more than one place since then.
The idea is very simple…Buy a frame. Write “I love you because…” on a piece of paper and put it in the frame. Then whenever you want you can write a note on the glass using an erasable marker. Easy-peasy.
I made one for my husband, and he keeps it on his nightstand. I try to write on it every morning when I make our bed. Just some little thing that I love about him or his personality or character. Here’s a sample…
“I love you because…you make me laugh.”
“I love you because…you work so hard to take care of us.”
“I love you because…you read to our children.”
“I love you because…you’re so good looking.”
“I love you because…you let me sleep in.”
I wish I could show you a picture of the frame I made, but we’re in the middle of moving and so much of our stuff is packed already.
I made my own design in my digital scrapbooking program, but you could totally just cut a piece of paper to fit the frame and write on it and/or embellish it with stickers or pictures. A 5 x 7″ frame seems to be a nice size…not too big for a nightstand but not too small for writing on.
In case you’d like to have something you could print up, I made up a couple of designs that you could print for yourself. Just click on the design you want to be taken to Google Drive where you can then print it.
This would be great to display somewhere your children would see it and write notes to them too.
What’s the best gift you ever gave your husband/dad?

You could probably find a use for it for just about any person. We all like to be told we’re loved. 🙂

Great idea and it printed up well :).
This year, we bought Pierre a much needed toolbox but the kids are going to fill it with gifts for him first ;). I’m curious as to what they will come up with 🙂

I love this idea! I agree, men can be difficult to gift. At least my man is. I think we are going to use this one. Thanks for this creative idea!

Jennifer, that is a wonderful idea- and an especially good idea for someone in a not-ideal marriage. Sometimes when we have to focus on what is good about our spouse- and thinking of a reason to love him-or-her each day can make a bad marriage turn around.

Focusing on the positive is good for any marriage, but you’re right. It could be a help to a bad marriage. All my life I’ve seen my parents focus on the good in each other even during the rough spots. They just celebrated their 48th anniversaary!
