I tend to overthink projects – a lot. And putting up all of our framed family pictures on a “gallery wall” was no different. I collected pins and collected my pictures in one place. I don’t feel that I’m very good at decorating our home, anyway, so this felt like a major undertaking for me.
I wanted all the frames to be a uniform black so I researched the best way to paint frames – see what I mean about overthinking. This went on for months. I worried about getting everything lined up just so.
Finally, I was tired of looking at stacks of framed pictures on my bedroom floor, and, to be honest, I think my husband was too. He told me the frames didn’t have to be all the same colour. That nothing had to be perfect.
So one night I laid the pictures out on my bedroom floor which as it goes is not how they ended up going up on the wall. Anyway, I laid them out and then just started pounding nails and hanging them.
I have to say that I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out. Certainly it doesn’t look like all the pins I pinned, but I’m happy. My wall which I know needs to be painted (soon, I hope), looks so much nicer. Seeing all of our pictures makes me smile when I walk down the stairs.
There were some empty spaces so I added some “S” monograms. One was the one I showed in my post about how I use buttons. I still have one more monogram to put up. It’s wooden, and I’m waiting to find the perfect scrapbook paper to cover it.
My oldest daughter pointed out that there really aren’t any recent photos, and she’s right. We haven’t done a formal family photo in eleven years. So I guess that’s something else we need to work on. Plus I need to print and frame some of the cute candids I have.
Our stairs are “u” shaped so I plan on wrapping more pictures around to the other walls. There is a window high up on one of the walls, and I’m going to make some new lighter and brighter curtains for it. I’ll give you regular updates as we paint and get the stairs prettied up. For now, I’m happy with the start I made.
Have you ever overthought a project and still liked the end results?

I tend to overthink projects, too. So many of them rarely get done because I think so much!
Your wall looks like it turned out really well! How nice that it is unique to your family and not something you saw pinned. π

Thank you. I think this wall has taught me a lesson – that it’s more important to be myself then strive for some unattainable “perfection”.

I think it looks nice and flows well with the rest of your house. As for recent pics – grab the ones you have taken at your June conference every year and frame that one – they always look nice!!!!!
We tend to be harder on ourselves in pics then other people π

I just never think to get the pics printed in a larger size. π We would like to get some done professionally too. It’s been ELEVEN years. Big changes. π

I know we should get them done, too but how do you do it? I’m so “cheap”, too LOL.
I need to get more things on the walls here – I’m just never sure how to make things look nice either…..maybe after the Easter dresses….

Well, professional photos can be expensive, but it’s been so long that I really want us to do this. π
