Today I was able to cross something off my Pinterest list. I find that I pin all kinds of projects on Pinterest but never do them. They look interesting, but if there not right in front of my face I forget about them. So every once in a while I scroll through my boards writing down projects I want to do in the next few days.

Today my older children went over to my mom’s – something they do every other week so she can teach things like art that I have no ability in. Anyway, it was just the two littlest and me at home so I decided to do a craft with them. I fairly proud that my OCD self did not have a meltdown while I let them use Sharpies.

The idea came from here. I don’t have anywhere in my house that I could tape cardboard tubes to, but we had some magnets that we weren’t using so I thought we would make them magnet so they’d be removable. The magnets we’re from something my husband signed up for, but we weren’t using. I hated to throw them away because I figured I could find some use for them. And I did!

The first step was to colour our tubes which is where the Sharpies came in. There was a fairly serious talk about what we do and do not do with markers before we started. The baby was only allowed to use them if he was sitting in my lap very carefully supervised. Everything went well, and I don’t think my children even realized how stressed I was. Bonus points for me.

After impatiently waiting for me to hot glue the magnets on, it was time to play.

I’m not always a fun, crafting mom, but I nailed it today.
