Friday File 8

Healthy Simplicity - Friday File

I can’t believe it’s Friday again already. We had a good week in school. We finally had some snow which the children have been enjoying playing in. Well, Jonah enjoyed it until he decided to take off his mitten and put his hand in the snow. You would have thought his hand had just been cut off the way he cried. I don’t know what he thought the snow would feel like, but it sorely disappointed him.

This first article was such a good reminder to me that our strength and wisdom for parenting does not come from ourselves but from the Lord.

My Parenting Method

I loved, loved, loved this post with so many good reasons why we should study classics of literature. One reason I had never thought much about was that it is a way for our children to see the dangers of the world without having to experience them. We love the classics in our home, and this just reinforced for me why we will continue to read and study them.

Why Study the Classics of Literature

I was so glad to see that someone wrote a very good post about this problem. I was horrified the first time I heard a Christian say “OMG”. They used the acronym and maybe in their mind it meant “Oh My Goodness”, but to the world it means something else so we should avoid it altogether.

The Problem with OMG

The next time your children complain about practicing just tell them this…

Recently we discovered that Moody Bible Institute not only did awesome science videos but Bible stories too. This one is a favourite with our little guys.

How was your week? Did you read anything good on the internet?

Maybe I will start reading classics to the kids after we get through a couple of other books. We have started to really really enjoy me reading to them all :). We stop school at 9am to read for 30 min and I think it makes us MORE productive after, too.

I agree with you on the OMG, thing – I don’t like my children to say or write anything close to that and I’m always telling them that even things like “shoot” is just non-educated words (not that I’m perfect! but I DO work on it).

I will have to check out the Moody films – they look interesting.

I’m sure it does help the productivity. I need to figure out a daily time when I can start reading out loud to everyone again.
It’s so hard to remember to take care with our words. Words are thrown around so flippantly these days.
The Moody films are great when a little one is sick. Someone has put up a playlist with about forty on it. I can just put it on for them while they’re laying on the couch, and they have a nice quiet activity.
