I can’t believe we’re down to the end of the summer. It has truly been a good summer – very relaxing. I did a lot of reading and sleeping in. We did picnics and parks and day trips. We let piano lessons go for the summer. I truly feel refreshed and ready for the new school year.

One of my projects this summer was to finish up a quilt. One of the ladies in our church was married this summer. As part of her bridal shower we all brought some yellow fabric which we cut into squares and then designed and sewed a quilt top. I took the top home added the batting and back and sewed the binding around the edge. It turned out really pretty, and the bride was happy.

I’ve written before about how challenging my seventh baby was/is. One area that he challenges me with is school time. He has never been a baby/toddler to really occupy himself. He’s getting a little better, but I still need to have activities planned for him. I actually did a whole series on “Toddler Fun” describing the various activities we have come up with. This fall I have something new for him. I found a preschool curriculum that’s simple, inexpensive and fun. I am so looking forward to us doing this together.

I also found a history curriculum that I’m excited to use with my oldest daughter who is a senior this year in high school.  As an aside, how did that craziness happen? I’m pretty sure it was just last week that we started learning her letters. I asked her what she wanted to do in history this year, and she immediately said World Wars I and II – her two newest passions (particulary WWII). I have really scoured the internet and finally found this curriculum for World War I and World War II. It’s a little below her grade level, but I’m beefing it up with documentaries for her to watch and essays for her to write. I’m looking forward to this too.

Just one more week and we start school. I’ll be starting to gear up next week by getting everyone into more of a school bedtime and wake up time and starting up piano lessons again…kind of break us in slowly. I’m looking forward to a great school year.
