Planning My School Week

So, in keeping with all the school posts we’ve had this week, I thought I’d show you how I plan out our week. Every year I have to slightly alter the form I made so it fits the grades and subjects we’re using.

I use the course planning sheets that I showed you in this post. I line my course outlines up by grade and subject in the order that we study them. I use the same order: math, grammar, literature, science, history,  spelling. Anything extra goes at the end of the day. So my binder this year will start with the Grade 1 courses, followed by Grade 4, 5, 7, 9, and 12. Not everyone has the same courses but you will see how I handle this on my weekly chart.

Here’s a sample from last year. I always write in pencil (which also explains why you can’t read everything on this scan – sorry) so it’s easy to correct mistakes. But I use a red pen to mark down tests so that they stand out. I can tell in a glance just when and what the tests are for the week. I try not to schedule tests for Mondays because we all know how nefarious Monday mornings can be. Honestly, sometimes I wish we could just skip Mondays and go straight to Tuesdays.

Healthy Simplicity - Planning My School Week

I love that I can have the week in front of me mapped out on just two pages. It’s simple. I add in the details of which exercises exactly they do when I fill in their homework books. I also use these sheets to write notes to myself of work that needs attention, or something to look up, or a lesson that needs to be redone.

I keep the form on my computer and it only takes me about five minutes to alter it each year before printing it. I figured out that unless something drastically changes in our family I will never have more than six students I have to plan for so the evolution of this form has come to an end. It looked different when I started making one years ago for three students.

How do you organize your week?

That looks easy to follow, too.
    I see Micah doesn’t have to do school LOL – j/k 😉
Well Ethan have a whole page to himself 🙂
It is interesting that you will have kids finishing and others starting 🙂
I love organizing school and Monday and Thursday mornings are our worst times :(.

He didn’t do a lot last year which is when these pages are from. I’m going to have a special binder with just Ethan’s work in it. Fridays are hard for us so I try to keep it light. We mostly finish up whatever is outstanding and then plan the next week. It’s nice to have an easy day to end the week.
