The library finally had Insurgient for me to read. This is volume two of the “Divergent” series. I have to say that it’s not as good as Divergent and neither of them are as good as “The Hunger Games” series. It just felt like Tris spent most of the book full of angst and doing stupid things because of it. Then there was this big SECRET she was supposed to be uncovering – the great climax – and when it was finally revealed it just left me feeling flat. I mean this was something her parents were willing to die for, and I was like – “That’s it? Nothing more?” It’s an okay read, but there is some swearing. If you’re looking for something not too deep – just something to amuse you – this would work.
15-year-old daughter – Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. This is the same author as The Hunger Games. Before The Hunger Games she wrote a series of books for middle school children. My daughter said she enjoyed it even though it had her crying over a cockroach. And with a statement like that I really have to read this book.
14-year-old son – The Lego Play Book – a DK book. We love DK books. They are always so well done.
12-year-old son – Cold Midnight in Vieux Midnight by Eric Wilson

10-year-old daughter – The Pirates of Pompeii by Caroline Lawrence
8-year-old daughter – By the Shores of Silver Lake by Laura Ingalls Wilder. She’s working her way steadily through this series.
6-year-old son – Bob Books, Set 1: Beginning Readers by Bobby Lynn Maslen. Here’s the summary of it from Amazon…
Teach a child letter sounds with Bob Books Set 1! With four letters in the first story, children can read a whole book. Consistent new sounds are added gradually, until young readers have read books with all letters of the alphabet (except Q). Short vowels and three-letter words in simple sentences make Bob Books Set 1 a fun confidence builder. With little books, come big success. (TM)
My son picked this out from the library, and we have been enjoying reading it together. He really does like that he can read it himself. I’m hoping to get the rest of the series from the library and keep building on his skills.

3-year-old son – Tallyho, Pinkerton by Steven Kellogg. Pinkerton is a Great Dane who is hilarious. This series of books is well worth the read.
So what’s been on your reading list this week?

And what is Jonah reading?
We like the Bob books and Gucci is reading her way through the Little House series, too.
I can’t bring myself to read any of the “Divergent” books of the “Hunger Games”.
I’m reading an author Lynn Austin. First it was a series on the Civil War. First book told from viewpoint of the south, 2nd the north and 3rd the slaves. The 3rd is checked out so I picked up her other series which is actually told from the time period just when Daniel is an old man and the Jews are returning to Jerusalem from Babylon. She is a GOOD writer in both eras!!
